Abstract: High Frequency Link (HFL) inverters are used to convert DC power to AC power in multistage or single-stage to reduce the size of the magnetics and increase the power density. Differential Mode Ćuk Inverter (DMCI) is a newly proposed architecture in the HFL inverters category with single-stage DC to AC power conversion. The DMCI has been demonstrated earlier for single phase as well as three phase inverter application with non-modular approach. The idea is sense differential voltage of two modules and compare with the sinusoidal voltage to close the control loop. The approach can be extended to implement the control at the modular level, such that the feedback is sensed from each module separately and compared to their respective reference signals, to generate the control input for each module. This approach provides modular implementation of the single/three phase DMCI which has several benefits over non-modular approach. Whenever there is a fault in one of the modules of the inverter, the other module/modules can generate the output voltage without any disturbance and only the faulty module needs the replacement (instead of entire inverter) to decrease the replacement cost. Moreover, from the manufacturing point of view, large quantity of single modules can be manufactured at once and later they can be configured as single/multi –phase inverter; according to the requirement; by simple modification in the DSP code. The challenge is to track a discontinuous reference signal; for DMS (Discontinuous Modulation Scheme) based DMCI; at modular level for such a nonminimum phase system. In this thesis, modular control for single phase and three phase DMCI with adaptive controller has been verified on simulation and demonstrated experimentally. Also, a new DMS scheme has been proposed to eliminate little distortions in the output voltage with the modular implementation of three phase DMCI.
